House of bricks Wk1 T3

 This week we had the people from house of bricks come to our school and teach us about Lego. my favourite one was the car making race because they all went so fast.

My favourite Lego activity was the tower building because I liked how I collaborated with my team and other teams.

My least favourite Lego activity was the patterns because I did not have any ideas on what to make and it took forever to take each piece off.

The activity that tested my perseverance the most was car racing because everytime we went to test it, it didn't go farther than others but still went pretty far.

The most challenging activity was the tower building because you had to make sure it didn't fall over while still making sure it was high enough.

I enjoyed working collaboratively with others because it was fun to see what people were like under pressure.

This week for writing we were learning about gender stereotyping. This is when you just think about as gender and you think they that are better then thee other gender at something. example: oh yea boys are definitely strong then girls. We learnt that stereotyping is bad and should not be a thing. We made posters showing that it is bad.

               should schools ban junk food?

Hello, I'm Leo and today I'm going to explain to you why schools should ban junk food.                       

Should Schools Ban Junk Food? I think junk food should be banned from schools because it destroys the teeth of the children and gives them a sugar high before going into class.

If the schools don't remove junk food the kids will be very energetic and loud in class which would cause trouble for the students learning. Also it destroys the teeth of children so they need more dentist appointments and miss school, of course this is bad so what can we do to stop this? We can ban junk food!

This week we have been writing a story from a video about a yellow umbrella. we also have been learning about perseverance, perseverance is about thinking about others.

At the time of dawn on a drafty stormy morning, the old creaky door to Miss Elem´s home for children creaked open. The little girl with the neon yellow umbrella, cautiously trotted into the orphanage with anger and right away found a place for her umbrella. Not wanting for the girl to see him, Borris quickly flung his head around the door frame, making sure he was hidden from view. Wandering off to the side, the girl observed the cheerful scene while the children searched in the box for hidden treasures.  The girl giggled while she watched the little boy soaring around the room like a lamborghini. Her smile swiftly disappeared as she glared back to the umbrella stand and all she saw were tiny little puddles. Her favorite Umbrella was gone?

Town Trip Recount

On the 20th of May 2021 Tumu went to Margaret Mahy Family Playground. There were four activities, learning about the playground markings with Mrs Carney, seeing the mats around the playground and feeding the tuna with Mrs Bryce, riding the waka up and down the awa with Miss Hansen and we also went to Victoria Square with Mrs Brown.

My favourite part of the trip was riding the waka because I got soaked and also it was fun working as a team.

Something I learnt was that there is a whole story around Margaret Mahy and I didn't even know.

The thing I found the most interesting was that Victoria Square has heaps of art works made out of wood and stone.

This trip has helped me with my PBL because I learnt about the culture before me and the Māori. For PBL I am going to make a poster with a waka and a saying.

This week for T-reo we have been learning about Matariki and the 9 stars. we have each pick one star that feels like yourself, I have chosen Waita.

This week for Independent writing we have been writing about the Maori myths, I did Maui and the big fish.

Maui said to his brothers’’ hey I want to go fishing with you guys’’, ‘’ no ‘’ said his brothers ‘’ you are too young and small’’. His brothers laughed. That night Maui wove himself a strong fishing line and the jaw bone his grandmother had given him, then he quietly snuck into his brother's waka and hid. That morning Maui woke to the sound of his brothers paddling through the water, he waited until the waka stopped and his brothers but there lines out then he sprung out of his hiding place and said ‘’ now i'll show you’’ he yelled as he threw his line overboard. All of a sudden the waka shook and Maui was surprised ‘’ can u help?’’ said Maui as he pulled and tucked. ‘’Wow’’ said Maui and his brothers as they stabbed the giant stingray.
